NBA player Sterling Brown has been awarded a $750,000 settlement in his police misconduct suit from over 2 years ago. BALDWIN Editors report.
In a unanimous vote from the Common Council of 14–0, the city of Milwaukee approved a $750,000 settlement for Sterling Brown on Tuesday.
Brown played for the Milwaukee Bucks at the time of the incident on January 26, 2018 when he was approached by an officer for allegedly being parked illegally across two handicap spots outside of Walgreen’s. Exclusive video shows that within minutes, several officers were present on the scene where a struggle erupted.
The NBA athlete was tased after being brought to the ground.
Though Brown was taken to the precinct, he was never charged. Later that day, he played in a game with noticeable scars and bruises on his face. Brown now plays for the Houston Rockets.
He sued the city for excessive force.
In a statement, Mark Thomsen, Brown’s attorney, called the settlement a “significant step forward in Milwaukee’s history.” Of the admission of guilt, he said, “at the end of the day, Mr. Brown wanted to implement policy and he did. And rather than holding out for the admission for himself, changing the future for young people, people of color in this city, was crucial.”
