REVIEW: NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FW23 | Heron Preston

Heron Preston FW23

“I’ve always said that the face of fashion is all of us.” These were the words said by Heron Preston about his collection for his NYFW debut.

The setting was a vacant loft in lower Manhattan, the perfect background for the street-inspired, gritty collection. From the sweatpants paired with high heels to the chain mail slips, mini skirts layered over catsuits, jeans, and sweatshirts — this collection was definitely for the everyday people who love to mix it up and experiment with their style.

As each piece walks down the runway, you can tell that the people were the inspiration for the collection. Even though the collection was full of what many described as “real clothes” the styling had an anything goes approach that Heron Preston himself said was the theme of the collection. On the runway, you could see floor length silk skirts and dresses paired with moto-jerseys, graphic jackets, and mid-cropped down puffers, a look the cool kids of style will definitely be interested in.

The collection was both futuristic and retrospective in the styling, silhouettes and the overall aesthetic.

The Heron Preston Fall 2023 collection is definitely something I could see anyone from fashion heavyweights like Rihanna or Doja Cat to everyday citizens be interested in. It reminds me of the approach 80’s designer Willi Smith had when creating his brand by being inspired by everyday people.

I’m excited to see what else Heron Preston has to offer and can only hope he continues to put real garments back into fashion.
