New Audio Interviews Reveal Conflicting Reports in Breonna Taylor Case

As Breonna Taylor continues to trend across the nation, a call for justice remains the outcry in protests and rallies throughout the country and now worldwide. New audio originally obtained by NBC, reveals conflicting reports on major details having to do with her murder

Breonna Taylor + Kenneth Walker

“I’m trying to protect her,” Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker said. New audio obtained by NBC is presenting conflicting reports on the murder of Breonna Taylor. “I don’t even know what happened, or why,” Walker finished, as he’s heard sobbing in the interview.

The major conflict, which could potentially change everything in terms of charges being brought against her killers, has to do with whether the police officers who shot Taylor eight times, identified themselves before entering the apartment.

The audio is interviews with Walker the night of the shooting — though it is unclear of whether he was allowed an attorney. The interview was conducted by Louisville Metro Police. Audio also featured another interview with Sergeant John Mattingly nine days after Taylor’s murder in which his attorney was present.

Taylor and Walker were considered a ‘Soft Target’ meaning, they were presumed to not resist, prior to issuing the warrant.

On March 13th Taylor, 26, who was considered an essential worker as an emergency room technician during the Corona Virus Pandemic, was killed after being shot in the middle of the night after the police entered her and Walker’s apartment with a narcotics warrant.

The audio reveals Mattingly maintaining his claims that he and the other officers allegedly identified themselves repeatedly before breaking down the apartment door. The warrant was classified as a no-knock warrant, but Mattingly says the officers were told to knock on the door anyway.

“I verbally heard, ‘we have it signed as a no-knock, but we’re not going to go that route.”

Walker says in the audio that he and Taylor repeatedly ask who is at the door after several knocks to no answer.

Walker fired one shot before his registered gun hit the ground. He injured Mattingly shooting him in the leg. He was taken into custody and indicted for attempted murder of a police officer. He was later released with no charges.

“We banged on it, no response,” Mattingly is heard saying in the audio. “Banged on it again, no response. At that point we started announcing ourselves: ‘Police! Please come to the door! Police! We have a search warrant!”

It’s too soon to tell how this audio will impact the case. As of today, the three officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s murder have not been arrested.
