On Monday, December 4th, The Fashion Awards 2023, presented by Pandora will return to the iconic London venue, the Royal Albert Hall. This will be a special night where London will celebrate the community’s fashion creativity and support the next generation of creative talent. The event also serves as the main fundraiser for the BFC Foundation, which supports the future growth and success of the British fashion industry through its focus on education, grant-giving, and business mentoring.
While there are many awards and honoree’s that will be highlighted such as Valentino Garavani receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award, Charlotte Tilbury receiving the Special Recognition Award and the late Joe Casely-Hayford will be honored with a posthumous Special Recognition Award, one of the most important announcements is that British-Ghanaian writer, actor and director Michaela Coel, will be honored with the Pandora Leader of Change Award.
The Award will be presented to her on the night by actress and global Pandora ambassador, Pamela Anderson. Coel will be honored for her screenwriting, acting and filmmaking, which consistently challenges the status quo and wholeheartedly centers around the female perspective and experience. Michaela Coel’s body of work includes TV series, Chewing Gum, which she starred in, wrote, and produced, HBO-BBC series, May I Destroy You, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well as various TV series’, including Black Earth Rising, Black Mirror and Top Boy. Michaela Coel responded to the news of her receiving the Pandora Leader of Change Award by stating, “I’m thankful and surprised to be honored in such a way. Thank you so much to the British Fashion Council & Pandora.”
