Donald Trump, who is currently leading in the 2024 Republican race for presidency, was indicted along with 18 associates Monday evening in a 98-page document for tampering with the 2020 presidential election specifically in Georgia.
The Atlanta-based grand jury met for 10 hours after hearing the results from an investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The indictment includes over 41-counts, according to NBC.
Per the grand jury, Georgia’s RICO laws were violated by Trump and associates for being, “part of a broad conspiracy to attempt to overturn the election result.”
Charges include false statements and solicitation of state legislatures, creating and distributing fake electoral college documents, harassing election workers, soliciting Justice Department officials, soliciting former Vice President Mike Pence, and breaching election equipment.
Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was Trump’s attorney, is chief among those indicted. Mark Meadows—Trump’s White House Chief of Staff, and John Eastman, Trump’s attorney are among those included as associates.
District Attorney Willis and her prosecutorial team referred to Trump’s tampering efforts as a “Criminal Enterprise.” According to The New York Times, the same efforts happened in other states including Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and in the District of Columbia.
Willis’ probe was launched in 2021. This indictment, unlike charges Trump has in other states, will not be pardonable; should he win the 2024 Presidential Election.
