A retired Black police officer has filed a formal suit against the NYPD alleging her former police captain raped her before every Yankee game while she was on post.
A retired Black NYPD female officer filed an official complaint and is seeking $35 million in damages after alleging she was raped by her superior after each Yankee game where she was stationed.
Gillian Roberts says that Captain Jeffrey Brienza rearranged her schedule so that he would ‘have more time with her.’ The suit was filed in Bronx Supreme Court.
According to the official complaint, the first incident occurred in June of 2020 when Brienza entered the women’s restroom where Roberts was present and using it — there, he forced her to have unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse. Roberts alleges she yelled, “No!” to Brienza responding, “Yes!” then placing his hands around her neck and ejaculating inside of her.
Roberts was an officer in Long Island City and Queens for more than 20 years prior to transferring to Yankee Stadium detail in March of 2020. Captain Brienza began making ‘advances’ at her almost immediately.
“Brienza purposefully and with premeditation manipulated Ms. Roberts for the purpose of getting her to believe that he was there for her, and tactfully worked on gaining her trust,” her lawyers say.
Roberts is also alleging intimidation, manipulation, and isolation in the workplace that went as far as Brienza assigning her as his personal driver.
In September, Roberts launched a complaint with Internal Affairs and took an early retirement two months later in November.
Other officers on the Yankee Stadium detail, which is one of the more desirable details, began referring to Roberts as the ‘Captain’s Girl.’
