REVIEW: AW23 | Louis Vuitton Menswear

Pharrell Williams shines with his debut collection for the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2024 menswear line. The Baldwin’s Fashion Editor Keyonna Butler reports

Paris shined brighter than before this week as all the stars came out to support music legend Pharrell on his debut collection with Louis Vuitton.

As the show began, I instantly saw the playfulness of the collection with pixelated prints reminiscent of beloved video game Minecraft covering suits, blazers and handbags. The use of earth tones throughout the collection didn’t make the garments feel bland, but instead gave an almost sophisticated touch to the playful aesthetics.

While many of the garments were very polished and streamlined, there were many stand out moments where streetwear and even Hip-Hop were the inspiration seen on tracksuits, bomber jackets and rugby shirts. I would even say a lot of the styling and design aesthetics branch from Pharrell’s other famed clothing brand Billionaire Boys Club started in 2003.

While the collection had the DNA of Pharrell all over it, there was still the traditional Louis Vuitton blueprint that was seen as well, with the iconic LV checkerboard print seen in many variations and colors. Not only was it seen on suiting and outerwear but it also covered denim sets, handbags and other accessories.

I believe this collection will be beloved by Louis Vuitton lovers and fans of Pharrell’s personal style as this spring 2024 collection bridges the gap perfectly.

It gave way to a new era of Louis Vuitton while also giving flowers to the brand itself and even Pharrell’s predecessor, Virgil Abloh.

After viewing the Spring 2024 Menswear collection I am very excited to see what direction Pharrell Williams will take Louis Vuitton.

No matter where this may lead the brand, I know for sure it will be full of success, style and joy.
