REVIEW: NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FW23 | Who Decides War

What is the American Dream?

Is it working hard until you arrive at your destination, or is it virtual moments on social media and celebrity culture? These were the themes the Who Decides War Fall 2023 Menswear collection touched on during NYFW.

The pinstriped suiting meshed with Hip-Hop tees and cool upcycled denim played on the the many sides of New York City where the concept of the American Dream all started. There were other hints of New York homage in the collection through Manhattan’s grid square quilting patterns and graffiti like embroidery detailing found on the puffer coats and sweatshirts.

The magic of the denim was definitely the highlight of the whole collection.

From embroidery and patchwork to elaborate distressing and quilting, the experimentation of the denim from design to styling was definitely something that took the WDW Fall RTW collection to another level.

As the models continued down the runway, another inspiration came to play in the WDW collection. The Victorian Gothic style of the 1800’s was definitely a major key. With stained glass embroidery detailing, corsets, bustles, and the final dress of a hoop with cutouts that mirrored stained glass windows found in churches of the early nineteenth century, it definitely gave a more gothic, underground appeal to streetwear and runway fashion.

The color palette featured dark tones and bold colors that continued the gothic style story that that silhouettes and designs started.

With elements of Hip Hop, gothic couture and Wall Street inspiration, the Who Decides War Fall 2023 RTW Menswear collection was a melting pot of fashion trends and style aesthetics that cohesively worked together to create magic.

In a pre-show chat with Vogue, designers Bravado and D’Amore stated, “We’re just trying to work as hard as we can and then also making sure that we are spreading our hands as wide as we can to try to bring as many people as possible with us.”

This is definitely apparent in their NYFW collection, showcasing that hard work and artistry is still alive.
